        Welcome to 2-1
        for the Week of
        Oct. 22, 2018!

Dear Parents and Students,
We are all looking forward to another fabulous week ahead as we will BE JESUS by welcoming our love of God, our love of learning, and our love of each other together!

We will continue with our IOWA Testing this Tuesday and will  complete all testing by Wednesday. Make ups for any child who was absent during the test will take place throughout  the week. There is no studying involved for these standardized tests, only a good night's sleep the night before, a healthy breakfast before leaving for school, and three sharpened number 2 pencils brought to school each day.

School will be closed this Friday, Oct. 26 due to the Diocesan Teacher's Conference. We will not have a Spelling Test this week due to the shortened week and IOWA Testing.

A Math Test on measurement will be given this Thursday as will our Phonics Check Up.

Please have your child utilize this time to work on their Saint Report. All reports are due on Monday, Nov.5. Consult the memo that went home regarding the details for this project

Our Early Childhood Open House and Carnival will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 11:00-1:00.

*Please remember that the children are required to have at least 3 sharpened pencils in their cases each day. Thank you!

This week we will continue preparing for our Sacrament of Reconciliation. We will learn about the Sacraments of Initiation and how these Sacraments help us to continue our friendship with God. The children will also be learning the Act of Contrition prayer this week. A copy of this prayer will be sent home with your child so that they say this beautiful prayer of forgiveness each night. Also the children will bring home their Reconciliation books to review the day's lesson. Please take the time to have a conversation with your child about what was learned in class so that they may gain an even deeper understanding of this beautiful Sacrament.

**Please remember to say one Hail Mary each night to the Blessed Mother, our class saint.

We will complete our unit on measurement which, for this week, will concentrate on relating measurements of meters and centimeters, using the appropriate measuring tools, and reviewing all of the concepts covered in this chapter.  There will be a test on measurement this Thursday.
Please utilize the connected website for review work and activities related to this chapter. All pass codes were distributed this past week. Math homework will be assigned on Monday through Wednesday of this week. The homework sheet can be found in your child's take home folder.

We will focus on the theme of "How Animals Meet Their Needs" when reading the stories " A Visit To The Desert" and"Hot Fox, Cold Dog" in our readers. Please continue to work on the reading logs each night and bring them in on Thursday this week so that they can be checked.

We will be introduced to the suffixes "s, es, ed, ing, er, est" and how they are used with base words. Please see the Phonics packet that will be sent home this week regarding this topic. It is important that the children practice their Phonics skills nightly in order to meet with success in the classroom!

The class will not have their weekly Spelling test this week.

This week we will be introduced to Nouns and how to use and identify them in sentences.

We will complete our work on our "Batty Sentences".

We will continue with our next chapter on animal habitats.

Please check out the "Class News" page for details about classroom policies.

Also, remember to utilize the pass codes for the Math and Reading series that will be sent home later in October. These codes enable the students to gain access to the Connected website so as to reference their math books and readers for reinforcement activities as well as the pages from their textbooks. It is a great resource for learning!
This website can be easily accessed by clicking on the McGraw: Math & Reading link located to the left of this page.

All the best for a happy, healthy, respectful, responsible, and reverent week ahead.

Mrs. Cooke
