Welcome to 2-1
        for the Week of
        Dec. 10, 2018!

Dear Parents and Students,
We are all looking forward to another fabulous week ahead as we will BE JESUS by welcoming our love of God, our love of learning, and our love of each other together.

We will have our Book Fair visit on Monday during our Computer/Library Science period. Please remember to send all spending money in the envelope that was sent home last week with the book flyer.

We will have a half day dismissal on Thursday due to report card conferences. All report card conference appointments went home with your child last week in their Green Notebook. Please remember to notate the time of your conference.

We will be attending our monthly school Mass on Thursday morning at 9:00. Please join us as we celebrate our Advent Liturgy as a school community.

We will have a Phonics Check Up on Thursday. There will not be a Spelling Test this week.

Please remember to send in an unwrapped toy for the Toy Drive.

*Please remember that the children are required to have at least 3 sharpened pencils in their cases each day. Thank you!

Religion
This week we will complete our Reconciliation Preparation Book. Our focus this week will surround the story of The Good Shepherd, how we return again to God through Reconciliation, and how Reconciliation makes our relationship with God stronger. We will have a visit from Father Adrian this week. He will review the steps of going to confession with us. The children continue to prepare their hearts for Jesus as we pray by our Advent Wreath each day throughout the season of Advent. An Advent Good Deed calendar was given to the children at the beginning of Advent and they are expected to complete one good deed listed on the calendar each day so as to prepare their hearts and minds for Jesus' arrival on Christmas.  The Reconciliation book will be going home with your child each night, so please take the time to review the day's lesson with your child to reinforce their understanding of this beautiful sacrament. The children will continue reciting the Act of Contrition prayer each day in school and are asked to pray this beautiful prayer of forgiveness at home on a daily basis to help prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Each student was given an Act of Contrition prayer to take home with them last month.

**Please remember to say one Hail Mary each night to the Blessed Mother, our class Saint.

Math
We will continue our chapter on the concept of regrouping with addition. This week we will focus on reviewing adding two, 2 digit numbers with and without regrouping, rewriting two digit addition sentences, and making a model to solve word problems . Since this is a new concept for the children, please review their math facts with them on a nightly basis so that they will be able to work through the regrouping process with a greater understanding of their basic math facts.
Please utilize the connected website for review work and activities related to this chapter. All pass codes were distributed and should be kept in a safe place. Math homework will be assigned on Monday through Thursday of this week. The homework sheet can be found in your child's take home folder.

Reading
We will continue focusing on the theme of how animal offspring resemble their parents when reading the story "Baby Bears" in our reader.  Please continue to have your child work on their reading log each night and bring them in on Friday this week so that they can be checked.

Phonics
We will continue working with the new syllable type known as "vowel-consonant-e otherwise known as v-e
. This week we will use this syllable type in two syllable words and identify the newest exception syllable, "ive". Please see the Phonics packet that was  sent home last week regarding this topic. It is important that the children practice their Phonics skills nightly in order to meet with success in the classroom!

Spelling
We will not have a spelling Test this week.

Grammar
This week, the class will review
irregular plural nouns and be introduced to plural possessive nouns.

Writing
The children compose an Elf Application for their writing activity this week.

Science
We will present our Mouse House Habitats to the class.

Please check out the "Class News" page for details about classroom policies.

Also, remember to utilize the pass codes for the Math and Reading series that were sent home. These codes enable the students to gain access to the Connected website so as to reference their math books and readers for reinforcement activities as well as the pages from their textbooks. It is a great resource for learning!
This website can be easily accessed by clicking on the McGraw Math & Reading link located to the left of this page.

All the best for a happy, healthy, respectful, responsible, reverent, and patient week ahead.

Mrs. Cooke
