Respect, Responsibility,
& Reverence
Kindergarten is full of learning through discovery which will spark your child's curiosity and ignite a love for learning in a safe and positive environment.
During your child's kindergarten experience at SEAS, he or she will reach his or her highest potential and will live with respect, responsibility, and reverence while building his or her faith and becoming a follower of Jesus. Your child's experience in kindergarten will also encourage your child to become a positive, kind, and helpful member of his or her church, school, and home communities.
Kindergarten Events to look forward to:
First grade is an exciting year where children become independent learners using critical thinking and problems solving skills.
In religion, children strengthen their relationship with God, learning about the Church Year, the life of Christ, the Sacraments, and by preparing and participating in prayer services and liturgies.
In ELA, children build upon phonemic awareness to become fluent readers, spellers, and writers, drawing knowledge from both fiction and non-fiction reading experiences.
In mathematics, first graders become problem solvers, using addition, subtraction, and even algebra to deepen their understanding and application of math.
Our science and social studies curriculum give children the opportunity to explore the natural world of plants and animals, light and sound while learning about our County’s past and present, and exploring and appreciating different cultures around the world.
Third graders continue to grow in independence, responsibility, and maturity. It is the first year students use a weekly planner and hone their organizational skills. They learn about Jesus’ life and His lessons through parables.
Students have the opportunity to join clubs, such as band, choir, and Rosary. In social studies, the third-grade curriculum explores community life. Field trips to Safety Town and the Bellmore Playhouse helps enrich our studies in school. Students learn and master their multiplication and division skills as well as cursive handwriting. In science, we learn about our environment through ecosystems.
Fourth grade is an exciting year filled with new challenges. Students will become more responsible as they move towards greater independence. The introduction of changing classes begins in fourth grade. Fourth graders learn about New York State and deepen their love for reading and writing. They prepare to take the New York State Common Core Computer Based Tests in ELA and Math, which they will participate in during April and May.
The Fifth Grade curriculum covers the geography and growth of the United States, beginning with the Native American tribes of each region, and following through with explorers, settlers, and independence.
Math covers skills including Fractions, Decimals, Geometry, Problem Solving, and Algebra. The Science program explores everything from plants and ecosystems, to our wide solar system. Religion classes provide a deeper understanding of the seven Sacraments, and a continued, deep relationship with God. Language Arts curriculum enriches skills in writing, literature, and grammar.
Students develop good work and study habits, while meeting an increase in academic demands and expectations. They will be challenged to develop independent thinking, a greater sense of responsibility, and positive social skills.
